Day 1

Great—you're ready to go!
The first part of Bible Study Reset is on its way in just a few moments.
While you're here…
Let me introduce myself.

Hi, I'm Quinton
I’ll be your guide over the next few days.I co-founded the School of Leadership and Theology (SOLT). I live in Durban, South Africa. I’m happily married to Trish, a pharmacist by trade, and I have two daughters, Haley and Robin. My journey has been a wild and winding ride.I started out as an Investment Management student with ambitions of making as much money as possible, but somehow my life got hijacked by a fascination with Biblical studies and Jesus. I vividly recall sitting at an old Compaq 386 computer, typing away at my first theology course during spare moments. (The printer—a total dinosaur—took two whole days to spit out the first draft!)My path to theological education wasn't exactly conventional.I was warned that studying academic theology was like “going to a cemetery, not a seminary”—that I'd lose all my passion and fire.Instead, a dream one night ignited my calling.I saw millions of people drowning in a stormy sea—not just unbelievers, but believers who'd never gone further in their discipleship beyond saying a sinner's prayer. In that moment, I realized that true Christianity isn't a "been-there-got-the-t-shirt" experience…Christianity is an apprenticeship process of learning to follow Jesus more closely. That's what drives the School of Leadership and Theology (SOLT). We believe theological education should be accessible to everyone—not just those with prior academic experience. It should transform lives, not just inform minds.
How to get the most out of Bible Study Reset
I've got a few quick tips on how to get the most out of this series.
Getting the most out of Bible Study Reset
The perspective shifts in this course have transformed my own faith journey and countless others.
Learning is a cycle of:
Curiosity → Reflection → Action
So, to get the most out of this:
Curiosity: Stay hungry and curious as you read.
Reflection: After each email, take a moment to pause and reflect.
Action: Then, find a way to take your insights and put them into practice in how you read and live Scripture. (The goal isn't just new information, but a renewed fascination to follow Jesus.)

Keep pressing on!
The final part of the Bible Study Reset is on its way to your inbox right now.
But before you dive into it, pause here for a moment: This journey isn’t just about understanding Jesus — it’s about following Him.Let that land.
Day 0: Pause & Reflect
When was a time you read something in the Bible and put it into practice?
Day 1: Pause & Reflect
What is one book in the Old Testament you have overlooked? (Maybe because it felt confusing, weird, or irrelevant)What is one way it might point to Jesus?
Day 2: Pause & Reflect
What version of the "gospel message" did you first become familiar with? Has your understanding of the good news changed — and why?
Day 3: Pause & Reflect
Pick a feeling that most resonates with you in your life right now:
Glad, Angry, Tired, Tempted, Fearful, Lonely, Hurt, Regretful, Powerless, Sad.Can you identify a moment in the Gospels when Jesus seems to feel something similar?
Day 4: Pause & Reflect
Can you think of a time when a Bible verse was used in a way that felt off? What context was missing? How would you communicate that verse if you were teaching it?
Day 5: Pause & Reflect
What’s something you know about Jesus and his teaching… that you don't really practice? What’s one step you could take to live it out?
Day 0: Pause & Reflect → Complete
Excellent.Insight is good. Application is better. That’s how apprenticeship begins.
Summary of Day 0

Summary of Day 1
Today’s email revealed the first major mistake self-taught Bible students make: Narrative Without Metanarrative — Missing the big picture of the Bible.Without a clear framework, the Bible can feel like scattered puzzle pieces. But once you see the overarching storyline — from Creation to New Creation — the pieces start to click into place.
You explored how even small, obscure books like Jonah and Nahum connect to Jesus and reveal God’s justice and mercy. The Shift: From Biblical Puzzle Pieces → To Seeing The Bigger Picture

Excellent. This is where deeper discipleship begins — not by knowing more, but by rethinking what we thought we knew in light of Jesus.
Summary of Day 2
Today’s email revealed the second major mistake self-taught Bible students make:
Salvation Over Kingdom — Sidelining Jesus’ Central Message. While many Christians focus on salvation as "going to heaven when you die," Jesus preached something far more immediate and powerful: the kingdom of God has come near. You explored what that means, how it shifts your purpose now, and why we live in the tension of the "already and not yet" — victory secured, yet still unfolding. The Shift: From Heaven Later → To Kingdom NowYou’re not just waiting for heaven. You're carrying heaven into earth.

Beautiful. You’re not less holy for feeling tired, tempted, or overwhelmed. You’re human. Just like Jesus.
Summary of Day 3
Today’s email uncovered the third major mistake self-taught Bible students make:
Divinity Without Humanity — Downplaying Jesus’ Human Experiences. Many of us imagine Jesus as distant and untouchable — so divine that He’s no longer relatable. But Scripture reveals a very different Jesus: one who was tired, tempted, misunderstood, and deeply moved by loss. He didn’t fake human struggle. He shared it. And that changes how we relate to Him.The Shift: From Distant Deity → To A New Way To Be Fully HumanJesus didn’t just show us who God is. He showed us what it means to be truly human.

The fourth major mistake self-taught Bible students make: "Text Without Context: Ignoring historical and cultural context."Check your inbox, Day 4 should be there now.

Summary of Day 4
Today’s email addressed one of the most easily overlooked Bible study mistakes:
Text Without Context — Ignoring Historical and Cultural Context. The Bible wasn’t written in our language, culture, or moment in history. When we ignore that, we flatten God’s story into modern assumptions — and risk turning living words into slogans that miss their power. The Shift: From Modern Assumptions → To Ancient Wisdom For TodayYou explored how verses like Jeremiah 29:11 take on deeper meaning when you see the story they come from — and how honoring context helps the Bible come alive.
Up Next in Day 5
The fitfth and final major mistake self-taught Bible students make: "Understanding Over Apprenticeship — Mistaking knowledge for transformation."Check your inbox, Day 5 should be there now.

Summary of Day 5
Today’s email revealed the fifth major mistake self-taught Bible students often make:
Understanding Over Apprenticeship — Mistaking Knowledge for Transformation. It’s easy to accumulate biblical knowledge while staying spiritually unchanged.
But Jesus didn’t say “learn about me.” He said “follow me.”We looked at the traps of passive belief and over-intellectualized faith and how apprenticeship offers a better way.The Shift: From Knowledge About Jesus → To Living His WayYou don’t need to be perfect. You just need to keep moving toward the Master.
